SHMÚ point out that the continued influx of very warm air helped break other records, for example at the airport in Košice.

In Dolny Zemplín, in the village of Veľké Trakany, they measured 19.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. “According to operational data, this is the highest air temperature measured during winter in eastern Slovakia,” the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) informs on the social network.

“The current maximum temperature record of 19.2 degrees Celsius was measured in 1990 at the Švedlár station,” the meteorologists added. They also announced that during Tuesday they recorded at least 19 degrees Celsius at six stations in eastern Slovakia.

Records fell

The continued influx of very warm air helped break other records, for example at the airport in Košice. “Until now, the highest winter temperature there was 16.4 degrees Celsius in 1990, and today, according to operational data, it was up to 18.1. Winter records were also set in Tisinac, Kamenice nad Cirochou and Milhostov,” added SHMÚ.

He reminded that warm weather can also be expected in the coming days. “On Thursday (February 29), even a maximum temperature above 20 degrees Celsius is not ruled out, which would jeopardize the absolute winter record of 20.6 degrees Celsius, measured in Žiharec and Hurbanov at the end of February 2019 and in Hurbanová at the end of February 2021.”
