A child was seriously injured Saturday morning after being hit by a car in a parking lot in Montreal.

The accident occurred around 10:45 a.m. in front of a restaurant located at the corner of Viau and Métropolitain boulevards, in the Saint-Léonard district.

According to initial information from the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM), the driver of the vehicle was trying to perform a parking maneuver when she collided with the child.

The latter, aged 10, suffered serious injuries which, however, did not endanger his life. When he was transported to the hospital, he was conscious, confirmed Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the SPVM.

For her part, the driver, aged 26, suffered a nervous shock, but did not need to be transported to a hospital.

The scene was protected to allow investigators to analyze it and question witnesses.

The causes and circumstances surrounding this event are still unknown, the investigation continues.
