REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Astronomers have discovered a procession galaxy supercluster monsters, huge collections of galaxies and galaxy clusters in the universe. The most striking example of 662 super cluster It is located about three billion light years from Earth and has been named the “Einasto Supercluster”.

Reported Space, Thursday (21/3/2024), this special supercluster was named in honor of Estonian astrophysicist Jean Einasto. Einasto is one of the discoverers of the large-scale structure of the universe.

The Einasto Supercluster has a mass equal to about 26 quadrillion suns. This supercluster is so vast that a light signal takes 360 million to travel from one side to the other.

These findings may help scientists better understand how group of galaxies this enormous united. Ultimately, this could also help answer questions about dark matter and dark energy.

Although other superclusters cannot match the Einasto Supercluster, their mass and size have clearly not decreased. From the samples found, the team led by astronomers from the Tartu Observatory was able to calculate the average mass and size of the supercluster.

The researchers determined that the typical mass of a supercluster in this collection is about six quadrillion solar masses, while the size of a typical supercluster is about 200 million light years. As an illustration, the average supercluster is about 2,000 times larger than the Milky Way. In terms of mass, if mass sun the same as a golf ball, one of these superclusters would have the same mass as Mount Everest.

While exploring the properties of these superclusters, the team found that galaxy clusters within the superclusters were heavier than those found outside the superclusters. This shows that galaxies in superclusters grow and evolve in a different way than galaxies outside the neighborhood.

Even though superclusters have enormous masses, each galaxy is less dense than other galaxies. The reason is that this enormous mass is spread over a very large volume. However, the density of supercluster galaxies is large enough to have a tremendous gravitational impact on the matter in the supercluster itself.

This includes the dark matter content of superclusters, which is the most mysterious form of matter in the universe. This is because this material remains invisible to the human eye because it does not interact with light.

Further investigation of this supercluster could help uncover another of the universe’s most pressing mysteries, namely the nature of dark energy. Dark energy is the alternate name given to the force that causes the expansion rate of the universe to accelerate. This has the effect of galaxies moving away from us, and moving away from each other, faster as time goes by.
