Out-of-hospital serum applications, which are advertised on social media with names such as atom and vitamin cocktail, with the dream of rejuvenating, being vigorous, and getting up as soon as possible after diseases such as flu or cold, and performed without the supervision of a doctor, are life-threatening.

Intravenous applications, often made in cocktails, including glutathione, high doses of vitamin C, vitamin B, painkillers and antibiotics that must be prescribed by the doctor, can cause allergic shocks and even cardiac arrest. If the person is not in a hospital environment, intervention may be too late.

The serum craze, which has become fashionable with the influence of internet and social media influencers, can be done only in health cabins under the supervision of nurses, in the patient’s home salon by delivering it to homes, in yoga-pilates salons, and even in hairdressers-beauty centers.

Assoc. Prof. from Turkish Emergency Medicine Association. Dr. Özlem Dikme made the following statements on the subject:

“THEY GO TO YOGA AND GET SERUM INSTALLED”

“We started to see it a lot, especially by non-physicians, in health booths and places that do not have medical equipment. As a result, many cases come to the emergency department. Especially in winter, such methods are used due to the increase in flu infections and the desire to have a better post-illness period. On social media Many influencers are sharing about this. Treatments such as yellow serum, vitamin serum and atomic serum are being offered in a fashion. Lately, this situation has gone so crazy that there are even cases coming from beauty centers and yoga pilates. “We witness that serum is given to their homes to strengthen immunity as an additional treatment in the centers they go to for training.”

“THERE ARE PEOPLE IN INTENSIVE CARE”

“The serum is applied without adjusting the dose according to age or weight. People are in a situation where they need emergency interventions due to very rapidly developing allergic reactions. We can encounter very serious situations that can even result in death. In this way, we started to see an increase in cases applying to emergency departments and patients in intensive care. Sudden.” Allergic reactions can cause shortness of breath, respiratory failure, or even cardiac arrest.

Assoc. Dr. Dikme explained that a person was saved from death by chance in the past weeks and gave the following information:

“A patient receives such treatment in the health cabin and goes home. After 1 hour, he gets worse. Luckily, his neighbor is a doctor and has an adrenaline injection with him. He intervenes immediately and is then taken to the hospital with heart massage. The patient stays in intensive care for a long time. This is the case.” “We started to encounter a lot of patients. Any serum treatment must be applied in a fully equipped hospital environment.”

“CAUSES A LOAD ON THE LIVER AND KIDNEY”

Recently, skin beauty, rejuvenation etc. Underlining that intravenous glutathione applications have become fashionable with promises, Assoc. Dr. Dikme concluded his words as follows:

“Glutathione deficiency is very rare. It is offered under the name of immune-boosting and anti-aging applications. However, externally administered glutathione produces different degradation metabolites than the body’s naturally produced glutathione. All of these metabolites cause secondary burdens on both the liver and kidney. In addition, intravenous administration The preservatives in the drug and other substances in the administered liquid increase the risk of allergic reactions. Giving all the vitamins together in a complex form and in maximum doses may actually be much lower, but when given intravenously, high amounts are caused. “Since the dose immediately enters the blood within 1-2 minutes, the metabolism that is exposed to a faster and higher amount may develop a more serious reaction.”
