Icy Conditions and Strong Winds Forecast for Slovakia – Febuary 4, 2026
Bratislava, Slovakia – The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) has issued warnings for icy conditions and strong winds across several regions of Slovakia, effective Tuesday morning, February 4th, 2026. These conditions pose potential hazards to public safety and transportation.
A first-degree warning for black ice is currently in effect for the entire Banská Bystrica region and most districts within the Trenčín region. Specifically, the warning covers the districts of Levice, Bytča, Kysucké Nové Mesto, Martin, Ružomberok, Turčianske Teplice, and Žilina. SHMÚ officials emphasize that the formation of black ice presents a “potential danger to human activities,” urging caution while traveling and engaging in outdoor pursuits.
In addition to the icy conditions, a separate warning has been issued for stronger winds, primarily affecting western Slovakia. Districts under this wind advisory include Bratislava, Malacky, Pezinok, Myjava, Levice, Nitra, Nové Zámky, Šaľa, Galanta, Hlohovec, Piešťany, Senica, Skalica, and Trnava. Forecasts predict wind gusts reaching 65 to 70 kilometers per hour, with average wind speeds around 45 kilometers per hour in these areas.
Travelers are advised to monitor conditions closely and adjust plans accordingly. Pedestrians should be especially cautious of slippery surfaces, and drivers should reduce speed and increase following distances. The SHMÚ will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary. Further details can be found on the SHMÚ website.
