The Quiet Rise of Snuggle: How a Copenhagen conservatory connection sparked an Alt-Pop Movement
A unique sound is emerging from Copenhagen’s music scene, and Snuggle – the duo of Anders Thuesen and Christian Strange – are quickly becoming central figures. Their story isn’t one of overnight success, but a gradual unfolding built on shared experience, musical kinship, and a desire to connect with listeners on a deeply personal level.
Despite previously navigating the same industry circles, signed to the same label (Escho) and sharing mutual acquaintances, Thuesen and Strange didn’t truly connect until they found themselves at Rhythmic Music Conservatory (RMC). It was within the conservatory’s walls, during collaborative music classes, that their creative synergy ignited.
“We had thes classes where we had to play music for each other, and it was an instant thing where we really liked what each other was doing, so we decided to try and jam,” Thuesen explains. beyond musical compatibility,a profound emotional connection formed quickly.
Strange elaborates, “Some of the stuff we talked about when we met was having these similar experiences of losing a very good friend in your mid-20s – we where just talking in a very unfiltered way.” This shared vulnerability became a cornerstone of their artistic approach.
The RMC & Copenhagen’s Emerging Sound
Snuggle are part of a growing wave of innovative musicians who’ve passed through the RMC. Artists like Erika de Casier, Henriette Motzfeldt (of smerz), Astrid Sonne, and ML Buch have all honed their craft within its halls. however, the duo are hesitant to attribute the current musical momentum solely to the school.
They believe the concentration of talent is more coincidence than design. Thuesen states, “It feels like the school is getting too much credit [for the] wave. It’s more like a coincidence that all these people that are getting attention now went to that school, and I don’t really like when you put the art too much in context with institutions.”
This viewpoint highlights a desire to let the music stand on its own, free from the constraints of institutional labels. It’s a testament to their belief in the power of art to transcend context.
Beyond the Hype: Connecting with Listeners
snuggle’s appeal extends far beyond the boundaries of Copenhagen’s increasingly renowned music scene. Their music resonates with a global audience, evidenced by a recent interaction that deeply impacted Thuesen.
A teenage girl from the American Midwest reached out via Instagram, sharing that Snuggle’s music inspired her to pursue a career in music. This connection underscored a shift in perspective for the band.
Thuesen reflects, “It just made me so incredibly happy – when I was younger, I just wanted to go and get out there, feel the success, and [feel] hyped about the hype. Now, it’s about these little things.”
This illustrates a move away from chasing external validation and towards fostering genuine connections with those who find meaning in their work.
What sets Snuggle apart?
* Authenticity: their music is rooted in personal experience and vulnerability.
* Collaboration: A strong creative partnership drives their sound.
* Focus on Connection: They prioritize building relationships with their listeners.

Snuggle’s journey demonstrates that true artistic success isn’t just about critical acclaim or chart positions. It’s about creating something meaningful that resonates with others, and inspiring the next generation of musicians to find their own voice. Their story is a compelling example of how shared experience, artistic vision, and a genuine connection with your audience can create something truly special.
