Spotify’s ‘Page Match‘ Feature aims to Seamlessly Connect physical books and Audiobooks
Spotify is currently testing a feature called Page Match that allows users to seamlessly transition between reading a physical book and listening to its audiobook counterpart. This functionality aims to bridge the gap for readers who enjoy both formats and want a unified experience.
How Page Match Works
Page Match utilizes a device’s camera and optical character recognition (OCR) technology to scan the current page of a physical book. The OCR identifies passages, then matches them to specific timestamps within the audiobook version. The Verge
Spotify states the feature is bidirectional. Users can start with the audiobook and then pick up reading the physical book,or vice versa. When pausing the audiobook, Page Match will display the corresponding page number in the physical book.
Addressing Edition Differences
A potential challenge lies in the varying page numbers across different editions of the same book. The Verge notes that it remains unclear how Spotify will handle this discrepancy when attempting to match the physical page to the audiobook. The Verge
Availability and Future Outlook
As with many features in the testing phase, there is no guarantee that Page Match will be officially launched. However, the concept has the potential to be a popular addition for audiobook and physical book enthusiasts, offering a convenient way to switch between formats without losing thier place.
