Goztepe’s mentor – Stanimir Stoilov, again commented on his last stay in Levski. The specialist gave an extensive interview to “Match Telegraph” in which he spoke about the “blues”.
“I found Levski, who had to change in the new year. That much was clear. A team that had lost four games in the first six rounds. And two household ones. We got some pretty good players. Noah, Jose, Tsunami, Krastev, Uletten, Van der Kaap. These were six players who gave a different look to the team. The team became competitive with the strongest. With these players, I played four matches with CSKA, in which we did not concede a goal, and they did not have a shot at our goal, regardless of whether they were guarding Nikolay Mihailov or Plamen Andreev. There was no difference in our performance. It shows that we were done with this negative streak, with this syndrome. Before that, Levski could not oppose our eternal rival. We began to dominate, and CSKA developed a syndrome of fear of us. I haven’t watched any games recently. I don’t like to comment without watching,” he said.
“We made a team that was really ready next year. He also went through the mistakes he had to go through. He went through the glory, through the wins, through the losses. It also showed itself in Europe, but God stopped us in the tournaments. Eliminating PAOK is something that probably won’t happen anytime soon. It is clear that this Levski was ready to become a champion. It was no coincidence that at the last press conference I said quite simply and clearly: “Let them set us specific tasks”. For example, if they had told me that they wanted Levski to be champion next year, I would have accepted, and if I am now as far behind as Levski is at the moment, there would be no other culprit to look for. I would have been the culprit and left. I saw that this team could become a champion”, added Stoilov.
“We found a bankrupt club – financially, morally, and sports-technically. No team and no players. Football players who were worth zero leva and zero cents. And it got to the point where we cleared debts of over four and a half million in one year and in parallel we built a strong team, and even won a trophy, and we played, in my opinion, the best football in Bulgaria. Or let’s be more modest – one of the best. And the most enjoyable matches were with Ludogorets. There was a football fight. I’m not saying that we always won, but there was a football battle that made people happy”, said Murray Stoilov.
