Students called to innovate cities

The inter-university competition on urban innovation was opened yesterday.

Digitalization and renewal. Through the inter-university competition, students throughout the Big Island are invited to participate in urban innovation. Called Hackathon 2024, this competition aims to develop innovative and technological projects. The participating groups should focus on the chosen theme, “Innovating the city: reinventing urban life with digital solutions. » A project that helps respond to political priorities such as the promotion of entrepreneurship, support for the development of the private sector in the country and management of job creation.

Director of the House of Entrepreneurship, Seheno Ranoarivony, during a press conference held at the House of Entrepreneurship in Ambohijatovo yesterday, explained: “We are completely immersed in the digital world at the moment. We would like to encourage participants to provide digital solutions to change and improve urban cities. In addition, the United Nations program on achieving the tenth Sustainable Development Goal, which is the digital transition, coincides with the competition. »

Regarding the details of the competition, those who want to register will fill out an online form with the details of the project. All expenses will be covered. Then, participants will attend intensive training, which will take place from June 3 to 7, 2024 in Antananarivo. But to participate, participants must form a group made up of two to three students. It should be noted that only a group of students will be able to represent their establishment. The winners of the competition will be rewarded with a year of support in the development of the project. And they will benefit from IT tools such as a computer and a tablet.

This is a competition aimed at young creative minds on innovative and technological projects. “We have the skills and experience necessary to train young people on developing a project,” says Rija Rahajarizafy of the Orange Digital Center.

The competition is organized in partnership with Orange Digital, Nexta, Zafitody and the Center. Funded by the European Union and UNIDO or United Nations Industrial Development Organization, it promises to bring together the best ideas to improve urban life in Madagascar.
