Sun Life Financial-Philippines Foundation, Inc. earned recognition for environmental sustainability at the League of Corporate Foundations’ 2026 CSR Guild Awards in Mandaluyong City. The foundation was named a finalist for its Food Shed Farming Enterprise, which partners with WWF-Philippines to build year-round food production sheds in remote, climate-vulnerable areas.
Food Shed Farming Enterprise Recognized at Mandaluyong City Ceremony
The recognition was announced during the 2026 CSR Guild Awards ceremony held in Mandaluyong City, an event hosted by the League of Corporate Foundations to honor exceptional corporate sustainability initiatives across the Philippines.
The nominated initiative, the Food Shed Farming Enterprise, is a collaborative effort between the Sun Life Foundation and the World Wide Fund for Nature-Philippines. The project focuses on constructing food sheds in remote areas capable of year-round food production. These structures provide local residents with sustainable livelihoods while bolstering food security through improved access to affordable, healthy, and locally produced food.
Climate-Vulnerable Communities Across Three Provinces Receive Sheds
By 2026, the partnership between the Sun Life Foundation and WWF-Philippines has successfully established sheds in more than a dozen climate-vulnerable communities.
To ensure long-term program sustainability beyond physical construction, the initiative integrates financial education components. It also facilitates the formation of community-managed savings and loans associations, equipping local residents with tools to manage their finances independently.
Leadership and Broader Organizational Scope
Joy Castillo, Chief Operating Officer of Sun Life Grepa Financial, Inc. and President of the Sun Life Foundation, emphasized the impact of the recognition on the organization’s ongoing mission.
Operating as the philanthropic arm of Sun Life Philippines—recognized as the country’s first and longest-standing life insurance company—the foundation maintains a broader focus on uplifting Filipino lives through health, education, and environmental programs. The parent company trades on the Toronto, New York, and Philippine stock exchanges under the ticker symbol SLF.
