Slovakia Advances National Anti-Corruption Strategy and Healthcare Investments
Bratislava, Slovakia – January 21, 2026 - The Slovak government has taken critically important steps to bolster its fight against corruption and improve healthcare infrastructure, as announced today. Ministers reviewed the National Anti-Corruption Strategy for the period 2026-2029, alongside approving a plan to allocate funds for vital medical equipment and facility upgrades.
National Anti-Corruption Strategy 2026-2029
The newly reviewed strategy is built upon four core pillars designed to create a more transparent and accountable government.These pillars include:
- Capacity Building: Strengthening the skills and resources of institutions responsible for combating corruption.
- Education and Communication: Raising public awareness about the dangers of corruption and promoting ethical behavior.
- Corruption Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities within government systems.
- Data Collection and Monitoring: Establishing robust mechanisms for tracking corruption trends and evaluating the effectiveness of anti-corruption efforts.
A detailed action plan to implement the strategy is currently awaiting final approval from the cabinet.
Healthcare Investment and Infrastructure Growth
In a separate decision, the Council of ministers designated several healthcare facilities as direct beneficiaries of funds from the national recovery plan. These include:
- University Hospital Bratislava: Receiving funding for the purchase of new medical equipment.
- Louis Pasteur University Hospital in Košice: Also earmarked for medical equipment acquisitions.
- Hospital in Snina: Will benefit from the recovery plan funds to upgrade its medical equipment.
Beyond equipment upgrades, the investments will also support the construction of two new psychiatric day hospitals and a specialized center for autism spectrum disorders within the University Hospital in Košice. This demonstrates a commitment to expanding mental healthcare services within the country.
