These are students at a school in West Palm Beach, Florida. This includes students up to the age of 14. It is not known how old the sick students are.

Police say five students were checked out in hospital ‘as a precaution’. They received the sweets from a minor, who has now been identified by the police, reports local channel WPTV.

No word from the school

Parents of students at the school are angry. They reportedly heard about the incident via Facebook and received no message from the school itself. “If we had an email, we could have told the children: don’t take candy from others,” a father told WPTV.

The school says it did not send a message because it was ‘a minor incident’ that was otherwise under control. Students who use drugs are immediately expelled from school, even if they have used the drugs accidentally.

There was a similar incident in the Netherlands last summer. Five children became unwell in The Hague after eating sweets containing THC. They also had to go to the hospital.
