The leaders of the coalition met twice this week, on Monday and Friday, but they failed to reach an agreement on a timetable for holding the elections.

The PSD and the PNL are analyzing the options of combining local elections with European parliamentary elections, but also a possible merging of parliamentary and presidential elections.

On Friday, HotNews.ro wrote that the social democrats still want a complete calendar for all four types of electoral ballots and joint PSD-PNL candidacies. It should be mentioned that the social democrats no longer pressed for the support of a common presidential candidate.

On the other hand, the liberals maintained their position and exclude joint candidacies and ask for an agreement only on merging the local ones with the European parliamentary ones and a discussion after June 9 on the other rounds of elections.

PSD MEP Mihai Tudose, the party’s campaign leader for the European Parliament elections, said on Friday that a decision has not yet been reached regarding the merger of the elections in the coalition and that the PSD wants the best way, which they have not found.

Tudose also said that personally, he is not very excited about the elections in December.

The President of the PNL, Nicolae Ciucă, said about the subject of combining the elections, that he believes that any extension of the discussions beyond Friday is inopportune and there is no point in discussing any more.

“We are occupying the public space with a topic that has been going on for too long,” pointed out Ciucă.
