Moments of terror were experienced by those who were near the structure that could not withstand the 7.2° that was felt this Wednesday morning.

In the images, shared by media such as The Guardianyou can see how motorists traveling through the area, in the city of Hualien, choose to get out of their vehicles and flee the area.

In just a few seconds, the commercial and apartment building on the corner of Congquing and Zhongshan Road collapses as a result of the earthquake, generating a wave of dust and debris.

It should be noted that Hualien County, on the east coast of Taiwan, was the area most affected by the strong earthquake.

According to international agencies such as EFEat least nine people were killed, 821 were injured, and 28 buildings completely or partially collapsed.

Meanwhile, more than 150 aftershocks of different magnitudes have been felt after the earthquake reported at 07:58 this Wednesday in Taiwan (20:58 on Tuesday in Chile).

This earthquake had a depth of 38.1 kilometers and its epicenter was 18 km southwest of Hualién, reported the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The president-elect and current vice president of Taiwan, William Lai, visited Hualien, where he stated that the most important task is to rescue trapped or missing people: 127, according to the latest official figures.

In turn, he stressed that the priority is to ensure that the injured receive adequate medical care, according to a statement released by the Presidential Office of Taiwan.
