Originally a simplified aircraft with tools for reconnaissance, it was later modified to carry out precision strikes against stationary or moving targets, including armored vehicles, ArmyInform reports.

According to A. Yusov, out of all the Sych drones used on the front lines alone, those used by the GUR and special forces have already destroyed more than 100 million US dollars worth of Russian weapons and military equipment. The list of targets destroyed or disabled by them is diverse, one example is the electronic jamming station “R-330Ž Žitel”: an expensive and valuable object of electronic warfare, the cost of one system is estimated at 10 million. dollars.

The official claims that in attack mode, the Syč operates without problems at a distance of 50 km behind the enemy’s front lines and has “additional protection systems”, making it immune to enemy electronic intelligence jamming. This feature allows him to get close to EW systems and turn them into strike targets. However, Defense Express points out that previously the charity fund “Повернись живим” (lit. “Come back alive”), when informing the media about the fundraising campaign, mentioned that the Syč’s maximum operational range is 200 km.

One such system costs about $50,000 and consists of two drones with associated launch and remote control equipment. The type and size of the warhead are unknown, but GUR officials say the drone is designed to target armored vehicles, manpower groups or small fortifications.

It should be noted that, on the other hand, the “Повернись живим” foundation positions this aircraft system as reconnaissance tools aimed at strategically important objects deep in the rear – for example, supply depots – capable of taking high-quality photos of potential targets and sending their coordinates to the operator.

In addition, A. Jusovas notes that the training of “Syč” operators is currently continuing – and “there is no shortage of operators”, especially in the GUR forces.

“There are instructors who teach and there are also trained crews. Now we just need more Sych, the intelligence officer emphasized.

Earlier, the effectiveness of these drones was emphasized by the Chief of Defense Intelligence, Kyrylas Budanovas. He noted that the GUR has been using these drones for a long time and they have proven to be a “reliable and deadly weapon”.

“We use them in absolutely all regions where our units work – and it has shown great efficiency everywhere,” said K. Budanov.

Not much is known about the unmanned Syč. He made his first public appearance in 2023. in June, during the aforementioned fundraiser. The manufacturers are kept secret, the main operator of this weapon is the defense intelligence of Ukraine, writes “Defense Express”.
