The Fall Guy: Complete Package Entertainment

Jakarta – From the moment The Fall Guy opened, the audience was presented with a love story that immediately caught my attention. Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) is a stuntman who has been replacing a famous and annoying actor named Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson).

His girlfriend is Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt), a camera operator with a million dreams. Even though the foundation of their relationship was short, David Leitch as director managed to convince me that this love was something worth preserving.

That’s why when Colt Seavers had an accident at the beginning of the film which made him decide to disappear from the film industry, my heart was hurt. Almost two years since this tragic incident, Colt, who is now a valet, gets a call from famous producer, Gail Meyer (Hannah Waddingham, imported from Ted Lasso).

Gail said that Jody was now a director and he asked Colt specifically to be a stuntman in his first film. Colt accepted this happily. But it turns out that Gail has a special mission for Colt. The main star of the film Jody, Tom Ryder, disappears without a trace. Gail said Tom was in contact with bad people and now it was Colt’s business to find Tom to save his ex-girlfriend’s film.

When Colt finally finds a body in the hotel room (not a spoiler, it’s in the trailer), his life gets a little more complicated.

Adapted from the 80s TV series of the same name, The Fall Guy is a fitting film for director David Leitch. Leitch, who previously worked as a stunt double for stars such as Brad Pitt (working together five times) and Jean-Claude Van Damme, knows exactly how to portray a stuntman’s work.

You could say The Fall Guy is a love letter to heroes who rarely get appreciation (until now the Oscars haven’t even given a nomination for best stunt performer). Story-wise, The Fall Guy is a complete blockbuster film. If Bullet Train still has an interesting twist, you can guess what happens in this film in the middle of the film.

There is nothing surprising in this film. Everything goes like most blockbuster movies. But Drew Pearce’s generic script is not an annoyance because he provides a lot of things to keep the audience at home watching this film. The dialogues are funny and adorable.

How he makes the audience care about the love story of the two main characters also deserves a thumbs up. But what’s most impressive is how it manages to balance the comedy, action and romance portions without one genre interfering with the other.

Leitch as director worked on this film wholeheartedly. He knows that he can rely on Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt from the acting department. The two mega stars can have chemistry with anyone. In The Fall Guy, they could make me believe just by looking at them.

Not only are they both good at the action or drama genre, these two people also have extraordinary comedic timing. That’s why Leitch focuses on the technical things that make The Fall Guy feel big and convincing.

This film is not only a celebration of the services of extraordinary stunt performers but also a love letter to filmmaking as a whole. From the start, Leitch shows off his long and complex camera movements. He also presents quite impressive action choreography.

From fistfights to car chases, it’s all in The Fall Guy. But it all gets several times crazier when the audience is led to an incredibly satisfying climax.

With booming music and colorful graphics, The Fall Guy is entertainment that will satisfy anyone. Lovers of action films, comedies and love stories will be happy because this film is made for everyone.

The fact that there are so many crazy scenes that use practical effects (aka done for real, not using a computer) makes this film a truly special treat. Invite friends and relatives who love films. This is a celebration of cinema that must be celebrated together.
