Incidents of monkeys intruding into urban areas and schools have been increasing in recent years. Former meteorological director Zheng Mingdian posted a photo and said, “Sooner or later there will be conflicts with residents.” Many people resonated with it after reading it.

Zheng Mingdian wrote on Facebook, “On the edge of the community, the monkey group is back! I feel that sooner or later there will be conflicts with the residents. There are a lot of monkeys in this group.” As can be seen in the photo, the monkeys are sitting on the wires, making others look at them. A cold sweat.

The post sparked heated discussions, with many people leaving messages such as “I’m really afraid they will conflict with high-voltage electricity”, “Accidental power outage”, “The problem of macaques is very serious and has not been taken seriously by the government. It is a big headache for farmers.” “, “Technology should be used to drive away monkeys now. Monkeys are most afraid of whatever roars they make, and the mayor is always broadcasting anyway”, “Few people want to solve problems before they happen.”

The Ministry of Agriculture recently reminded that there are three principles to abide by when encountering Taiwanese macaques, including no feeding, no contact, and no interference. The Ministry of Agriculture pointed out that wild macaques eat native fruits and animals in the mountains and forests, and feeding them food rich in salt, sugar, and oil from humans will change their eating habits and behavior, and even endanger their health. Moreover, feeding them will make the macaques accustomed to human food. Food and habits are taken from people, which leads to snatching and attacking behaviors. To prevent macaques from harassing people, start by never feeding macaques.

Why no contact or interference? The Ministry of Agriculture stated that Taiwanese macaques and humans may carry common infectious diseases. If they come into contact, they will contract the disease from each other. If not treated early, the disease will be serious and fatal. In addition, interference will cause the macaques to run around nervously and even hurt people. Do not interfere Wild macaques should respect and protect their group life, abide by the three no’s principles, protect Taiwanese macaques, and also protect ourselves.
