The president of the Spanish Rugby Federation (FER), Juan Carlos Martin Hansenand the Secretary of the National Association of Rugby Clubs (ANCR), Michael Martinezhave taken another step in the understanding between both organizations with the signing of a manifesto as a declaration of intentions through which the necessary agreements are visualized to reach the establishment of a professional rugby league, and the intention of the transfer of powers of the same from the Federation to the Clubs in the future.

Among the stipulations signed by both presidents, the RFER and the ANCR confirm their wish that the highest categories, Honor Division and Iberdrola Rugby League, can be organized by the National Association of Rugby Clubs in the future.

Likewise, it is the will of both parties, in the shortest possible time, to establish an agreement that regulates the aspects for the organization of both competitions by the ANCR.

The parties also agreed to establish permanent and active channels of communication and collaboration to advance all matters of common interest.

As for the practical, Working groups will be established with different areas of actionsuch as the Strategic Plan, on which it will depend on moving forward with the modifications and improvements that the Leagues must face for their professionalization and subsequent organization by the ANCR, Sports, Communication and Legal in order to address the issues related to the establishment of the ultimate goal of the League. transfer of powers of the Leagues in the future.

Finally, they expressed their desire for there to be a collaboration agreement between both that regulates the Division of Honor competitions for the 2024-2025 seasonand they will work to make it possible.

With several work sessions ahead and an awareness day that LALIGA will give in football, the agreement will continue to advance at a steady pace towards the understanding and collaboration of both organizations, and highlights the renewed and excellent relationship with the new federative board.

For its part, Michael MartinezSecretary of the National Association of Rugby Clubs, wanted to highlight that “this agreement arises from the desire of both the Federation and the Clubs to grow.” “The objective is to go hand in hand to gradually develop a strong League, both men’s and women’s, which in turn helps to have powerful National Teams that we see in each World Cup. The clubs must be proactive and work too. And that is what we are doing,” she concluded.
