Significant progress is being made on the 30-kilometer stretch between Curtea de Argeș and Pitesti, where the first layer of asphalt is already being applied.
That development is encouraging transportation officials, suggesting the highway could be completed before the contract date of 2025.
“The works are progressing very well, they are somewhere at 55% progress”, Sorin Grindeanu declared in 2023.
“Daniela” tunnel
The first tunnel drilled on a Romanian highway was called “Daniela”. This tunnel, with a length of 1.3 kilometers, passes under Momaia Hill in Argeș County.
During his visit to the construction site, the Prime Minister conveyed a significant message to the Austrian builder.
„I think it is the first breakthrough after the communist period. The builder is progressing with the work and I would like to congratulate them. I firmly believe that if we had been in Schengen, you would have been even further ahead”, said Marcel Ciolacu. This tunnel is part of a ten kilometer stretch of highway located between Tigveni and Curtea de Argeș.
