Bulgarian judge Pavel Atanasov has been given a life sentence after admitting his responsibility for a number of violations of the anti-corruption program and tennis. We are talking about incidents in the period between 2019 and 2023, as the Bulgarian initially filed an appeal against the sanction imposed on him, but then withdrew it and thus his punishment came into effect.

Atanasov is a judge at the national level, and in addition to the punishment, he will also have to pay a fine of $10,000 for 21 violations of the program in question.

He has been sanctioned for a number of offenses such as manipulating match scoring data for the purpose of betting, facilitating betting, as well as participating in a conspiracy to commit corruption offences, as well as failing to report corrupt practices.

Due to his punishment, Atanasov will logically not be able to officiate any more tennis matches, but he also has no right to attend one even as a spectator.

Meanwhile, Antonio Casa, who is also a judge and holds Brazilian and Italian citizenship, was “only” jailed for seven years and six months.
