Once again, Saúl Canelo Álvarez retained his unified WBO, WBA, WBC and IBF titles in the super middleweight division. He defeated Jaime Munguía by unanimous decision, although there was no knockout, he sent Munguía to the canvas on one occasion, but in the end the winner was determined by the judges’ scorecard.

This fight was full of controversial issues, including the veto of sports journalists. David Faitelson, from TUDN, was one of those affected and could not witness the fight at T-Mobile since he was denied accreditation to all events related to the fight.

Once the event concluded, Faitelson took advantage of his space on his TUDN program Faitelson uncensored to share the details of how he found out that he was banned from coverage.

According to the journalist himself, from one day to the next his accreditation was rejected, and with this he was denied entry to the venues for the weigh-in ceremony, fight and post-fight conference. Faitelson was not able to enter any of the buildings where the Canelo vs. Munguía fight event took place.

Although he carried out the due procedures to have access to the fight and made the trip with the rest of the TUDN team, the company that organized the fight did not allow him entry. This is how Faitelson told it in his live program:

“On Wednesday of last week, around four in the afternoon, I handed in my passport at the entrance to the hotel’s press room. “I immediately saw that the attendees were going around and around, murmuring among themselves, until after about 15 minutes they told me that my credential to cover the fight had been denied the night before,” he explained.

At no time did they give him any explanation as to why they made that decision, which is why Faitelson reacted angrily, but he accepted that this event made him take responsibility for his actions as a critic.

“I was overcome with a little sadness, then anger, and in the end I understood that nothing was happening. “I am fully responsible for my criticisms and journalistic statements.”

On the other hand, the controversial sports analyst took responsibility for the comments he usually makes, especially when it comes to attacking the actions carried out by Canelo in Mexican boxing.

He regretted that there are people who are not intelligent enough to accept criticism, which is why he referred to the fact that there are “people who do not have the capacity and intelligence to understand it.” He did not want to put himself in the role of victim for not having seen the fight from the T-Mobile in Las Vegas, but instead exploded against the “lies” that were told.

“Money gives you a lot, but it doesn’t give you education, it doesn’t give you intelligence. Money gives you power, and that’s fine, I’m not here to flagellate myself, nor am I trying to become a martyr, what bothers me the most is the lie.”

During the press event prior to Canelo vs. Munguía, the Guadalajara champion chatted with the press and denied that he was behind Faitelson’s veto. But, he did not rule out that the information that was leaked was some type of rumor. He expressed that he is focused on giving his best fight.

When asked about the situation of the alleged veto of Faitelson, this is what he said:

“I? no not at all. The company is the one in charge of that, I am involved in my own thing, focused on what I have to do. I have a lot of peace in my head, in my heart, so no.”
