Weather forecast for the weekend

Forecast confirmed for the weekend: an arctic pulse will hit Italy. A new disturbance will therefore have its effects felt between Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st April on many of our regions.
It will therefore be advisable to keep an umbrella and a heavy jacket handy, especially in some of our regions.

The cause is to be found in the continuous influx of cold and unstable currents of Arctic origin descending from Northern Europe which as early as Saturday 20th April will cause the formation of a cyclone which will trigger cold winds from the northern quadrants and thunderstorms in the Centre-South, in particular on Tuscany, Lazio, Marche, Abruzzo, Campania, Puglia and Calabria. Due to the strong thermal contrasts that will be created and the much energy involved, we do not exclude the risk of local hailstorms. Furthermore, thanks to the drop in temperatures, snow will return to the internal areas of the Apennines, with flakes up to around 1000 meters above sea level: it will be a notable event given that we are now in the heart of Spring. Cold weekend in Italy with thunderstorms and also snowfall at low altitudes Sunday 21 April a new disturbed impulse will this time reach the regions of the North West, causing rain and snowfalls up to very low altitudes (low hills) in Piedmont, Valle d’Aosta and the Ligurian mountains.
But the real twist will concern the temperatures: given the origin of the air mass (Arctic regions) the thermal values will continue to remain below average, even close to zero in the early morning on the Northern plains.

Antonio Sanò, founder of the, spoke on the topic iLMeteo.itto whom we asked what will happen over the weekend and in the following days.
The weekend will see the arrival of a second cold pulse from Northern Europe which will reignite the storms especially in the central regions; we will have further snowfalls in the Apennines and the winter-like bad weather will also partly affect the southern peninsula and Emilia Romagna with rain and showers.

Will Sunday be similar to Saturday?
In practice yes, but with differences: in the morning the bad weather will again hit the Marches, Abruzzo and Molise with even intense phenomena, the anomalous cold will favor further widespread snowfalls on the central Apennines up to around 1200 meters (as in January).
And, a bit like Saturday, Sunday will also see some showers in the southern peninsula and in Emilia Romagna, although a worsening is also expected towards the North-West: another cold core, descending from Germany towards France, will cause abundant snowfall in the Piedmont Alps, with snow levels decreasing during the night up to hilly altitudes!

An exceptional event on Monday?
Certainly, it would be a relevant event, if confirmed: Monday 22 April on Earth Day, the planet could show the cold side of Spring in Italy. Snow will fall abundantly up to 400-500 meters in Piedmont, as happened repeatedly in the winter. In summary, after 2 years of extreme drought, the North-West will find more snow and precious water to compensate for the scorching summer season. However, good news.

Conclusions?
We have the good news of the rains in a holiday period (long weekends of April 25th and May 1st) against the drought: of course holidaymakers would always and everywhere prefer warm and sunny weather, but at the moment an AprilJanuary until the end of the month is forecast with sunny spells, frequent thunderstorms and snow also in the Apennines. For the heat we will have to wait until May.
