Denmark Faces Digital Disruptions and Weather Alerts

Denmark experienced disruptions to several key online services on Wednesday, while also bracing for heavy snowfall and a rise in influenza cases. A danish photographer has also received recognition for their wildlife photography.

Digital Service Outage

Several Danish digital services, including those offered by Sundhed.dk, were temporarily inaccessible due to a technical issue. However, the MitID digital ID system remained operational, allowing online payments to continue uninterrupted. The cause of the outage was still under examination as of late yesterday.

Influenza Cases and Hospitalizations Rise

Despite the influenza season nearing its end,Denmark is seeing a continued increase in both cases and hospitalizations,according to the Statens serum Institut (SSI), the national infectious disease control agency. A recent weekly update reported 2,400 confirmed influenza cases and 680 hospitalizations.

Covid-19 is currently considered to be at an intermediate level with stable case numbers. The RS virus,another common seasonal respiratory infection,is also at an intermediate level but is experiencing a rise in cases.

Bolette Søborg, SSIS senior medical consultant, stated last week that influenza levels are now “felt at hospitals,” indicating a significant strain on healthcare resources. Individuals over 65 and those with compromised immune systems are at the highest risk of severe illness from influenza.

Severe Weather Warning: Snowstorms Expected

The Danish meteorological Institute (DMI) has issued a severe weather alert for heavy snow and potential snowstorms across denmark, beginning today. The alert is in effect through Thursday,with conditions expected to improve by Friday.

North Jutland is anticipated to experience the most severe snowstorms, but the heavy snowfall warning and alert cover almost the entire country. Residents are advised to take precautions and monitor updates from DMI.

Danish Photographer Nominated for Wildlife Award

Zoologist and wildlife photographer Mogens Trolle has been nominated for the public vote award in the prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. The Natural History museum of Denmark announced the nomination in a statement.

Trolle’s shortlisted image, captured in Kaeng Krachan, Thailand, features a sun bear – the world’s smallest bear species.He reflected on the experience, noting the bittersweet reality of observing the bear amidst a pile of rubbish. “But on the other hand, the bear doesn’t care about aesthetics,” he added.
