MacDonald intentionally played with audience expectations. The initial plan was to focus solely on WillS storyline, leading viewers to believe only he would reappear. Though, the dramatic reveal of natalie’s return – triggered by news of a shooting involving her son, Owen – delivered a powerful emotional punch.
“It was always my intention to bring back both characters,” MacDonald explained. “We wanted to weave their story into chicago Med history.”
