Josh Tarling delivered the first gold medal for Great Britain in the men’s points race. He amassed an impressive 750 points throughout the grueling 40km event, surpassing American Peter Moore‘s 675 points to claim the title.
Tarling’s strategy proved effective from the start. He secured points in the opening sprint and continued to build his lead, notably gaining a lap on the competition during sprint three. He consistently accumulated points,including another maximum haul in sprint eleven,ultimately winning in dominant fashion.
This victory marks a significant milestone for the 21-year-old. Tarling becomes the first British man to win the points race title since Jonathan Dibben’s success in 2016.
“I didn’t know how my first World Championships would be or how it would feel, so not knowing was scary,” Tarling shared.”It felt pretty good,and I think it was good that I got those early points in so I knew the legs were there.”
Charlton Secures Individual Pursuit Title
Josh Charlton followed Tarling’s success with a gold medal of his own in the individual pursuit. He secured Great Britain’s first world title in this event since bradley Wiggins’ victory in 2008.
Charlton, 22, showcased his dominance, finishing over three seconds ahead of Denmark’s Rasmus Pederson.Having earned a silver medal at his championship debut last year,this upgrade to gold highlights his continued growth and dedication.
