TSIROANOMANDIDY – A notorious bandit shot down

The town of Tsiroanomandidy was the scene of a National Gendarmerie operation.

The gendarmerie launched an operation when the presence of a much-feared armed gang was reported to them. In the clash, one of the alleged criminals was killed and a firearm found.

Having managed to slip through the cracks, the four associates of the incapacitated individual managed to disappear into the wild. Elements of the gendarmerie are nevertheless on the trail of the fugitives. The deadly clash broke out on Saturday night, around 10 p.m., when gendarmes led by the commander of the territorial company of Tsiroanomandidy and his deputy launched an operation. Made aware that a squad of fugitives who are sowing terror in the central agglomeration of Tsiroanomandidy and its peripheral areas, including Ankerana-North, Soanierana and Bevato, had resurfaced, the territorial company immediately developed a device interception.

The information reached the gendarmerie on Saturday afternoon, around 4 p.m. While advancing on Bevato in the evening, the gendarmes found the traces of the fugitives.

Upon arriving at Maharavoandriana, the men of the territorial company fell into an ambush set by the criminals. Caught in a volley of heavy fire, they responded with their weapons of war. In the skirmish, a member of the gang, infamous for acts of banditry having been perpetrated in the district, was killed in the exchange of gunfire. While his accomplices managed to take off, abandoning his remains at the scene of the shooting, the gendarmes found in his possession a homemade pistol working with 12 gauge ammunition, used for hunting rifles.
