Peace Talks Between Russia and Ukraine to Resume in Abu Dhabi
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the next round of peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine will be held on February 4th and 5th in Abu Dhabi. Envoys from the united States are also expected to participate in the trilateral talks, which aim to find a resolution to Moscow’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
Zelensky stated on Telegram that Ukraine is prepared for ”substantive talks” and seeks a “real and dignified end to the war.” While details of the discussions remain scarce, the meetings represent a continuation of year-long efforts, spearheaded by the Trump administration, to broker a peace deal as the conflict approaches its fourth anniversary.
Despite agreeing in principle to Washington’s calls for compromise, significant disagreements persist between Moscow and Kyiv, particularly regarding the status of occupied territories, including the Donbas region.
The proclamation comes amidst continued attacks from Russia, including a drone strike on a maternity hospital in Zaporizhzhia on Sunday, injuring six women. Earlier in the week, President Trump reported that President Putin had agreed to temporarily halt strikes on Kyiv and other cities due to the severe winter conditions. The Kremlin confirmed a pause in attacks on Kyiv until Sunday, but provided no further details.
Recent Russian strikes have targeted energy infrastructure in odesa and Kharkiv, as well as the Kyiv region, resulting in casualties. Ukraine’s air force reported intercepting 14 out of 90 attack drones launched overnight, while a drone strike in Dnipro resulted in two deaths. Shelling in Kherson also left a woman seriously wounded.
