In “We need to talk” this Wednesday, April 24, Fanny Rochez and her team notably returned to the health of Belgians (whose life expectancy has increased), on this incredible Belgian history of a robbed police officer who chases thieves but ends up in court and finally on the idea of Ecolo to hire undocumented immigrants to “save” the Horeca industry.

On this last point, the president of Horeca Brussels Matthieu Léonard gave his point of view. For him, Ecolo is right for two reasons. From a human point of view first of all with “people in precarious situations, particularly in the Brussels region”; and then from an economic point of view, “because of the 200,000 vacancies or jobs available at the moment in Belgium, the Horeca sector represents 10%”.

But the guests present on the table were all unanimous in saying that this measure will have a hard time passing. Because it is a federal jurisdiction and we risk having parties that are completely against it and will be in power after the elections. “We would like to believe it, but we know the position of certain parties, and of one party in particular, which – without being racist – start from the principle that we will first draw on the side of job seekers who are already Belgian and who need to be reactivated for long-term patients. I understand but it’s a shame because here we have a wealth of people who are immediately available and who want to work,” confides Matthieu Léonard.
