Israeli officials commented on plans by the United States (US) to build a “temporary port” on the coast of the Gaza Strip to distribute humanitarian aid via sea. Tel Aviv said it welcomed the plan, which was one of the topics conveyed by President Joe Biden in his state of the nation address to the US Congress.

As reported and The Times of IsraelFriday (8/3/2024), a senior US official who declined to be named revealed that Biden in his speech would inform the US Congress that he had ordered the US military to build a temporary port in the Gaza Strip.

In response, an unnamed Israeli official speaking to stated that Tel Aviv “fully supports the deployment of temporary piers” on the Gaza coast.

The Israeli official stated that the operation “will be carried out with full coordination between the two parties”.

Biden previously reportedly told the US Congress that he ordered the US military to build a temporary port in the Gaza Strip to distribute more humanitarian aid.

“The President will announce in his State of the Union address that he has deployed the US military to carry out an emergency mission to build a port in Gaza, working with like-minded countries and humanitarian partners,” said a senior US official who revealed the contents Biden’s State of the Union Address.

“This port, whose main feature is a temporary dock, will be able to accommodate additional aid trucks every day,” added the US official.

It was stated that the facility would be able to accommodate large ships carrying food, water, medical supplies and temporary shelter.
