Wadephul Calls for Stricter Iran Sanctions After US Meeting

Following discussions with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio,German Foreign Minister Johann⁣ Wadephul has called⁣ for​ increased pressure on⁢ the Iranian leadership. He ‍refrained from commenting on the⁤ possibility of U.S.⁣ military intervention within Iran.

Wadephul ⁤characterized the current Iranian⁤ goverment as an illegitimate regime lacking popular support, one‌ that employs tactics against its own citizens that violate all rules of humanity.

The German government, Wadephul announced, will actively pursue ‍expanding sanctions targeting Iranian officials. This includes ⁤seeking to list individuals within the European ⁣Union’s terror ⁤sanctions regime, a⁢ measure that has⁣ faced obstacles due to the requirement of unanimous EU consent. He appealed to member states ⁣to reconsider this matter ⁤in light of the ongoing violent suppression
