The textile company Riopele, from Famalicão, has been experiencing difficulties in shipping time for containers from Asia due to the war between Israel and Hamas, which resulted in attacks on the Suez Canal, through which shipping traffic passes. in the Mediterranean.

The announcement was made by the company’s purchasing director, Paulo Oliveira, on ‘site‘ by Riopele. The official also adds that “the bad weather and maritime unrest that occurred during the first quarter of this year caused the closure of some maritime ports, which forced the diversion of some ships stopping in Sines to other seaports”.

In this way, he highlights, Riopele “started to live a new reality since containers from Asia started to take 60 days, instead of the usual 45 days”.

In 2027, the company marks its centenary, aiming to reach 100 million euros in turnover, a target that remains.

“Since we were unable to act directly on the maritime routes, what we did was inform our partners of all the procedures”, highlighted Paulo Oliveira, informing that the company gave priority to two maritime transport companies to speed up the processes.

Miguel Teles, logistics director, quoted on the website, states that at the import level “the transit time of raw materials increased considerably, which forced us to rethink the supply strategy, anticipating purchase plans in order to minimize possible scratchs”.

It is worth remembering that the Famalicão textile company achieved its best year ever in 2023, having earned 97 million euros.
