David Byrne surprised concertgoers in Halifax and Cardiff by joining Anna Calvi on stage to deliver powerful live renditions of their collaborative track, “Strange Weather.” The unexpected joint performances highlight a long-standing creative partnership between the former Talking Heads frontman and the acclaimed British singer-songwriter, who served as the direct support act for select dates of Byrne’s current tour.
Calvi opened for Byrne at the historic Piece Hall in Halifax on July 18, followed by a performance at Cardiff Castle on July 26. On both evenings, the singer invited Byrne back onto the stage during her set to revisit their 2014 studio collaboration. The song, originally written by French-Israeli artist Keren Ann, was recorded by Byrne and Calvi a decade ago for Calvi’s five-track covers EP, which shares the same title.
Reflecting on the Halifax performance, Calvi took to social media to share her gratitude with fans and express her appreciation for her fellow artist. “An honour to share the stage with David Byrne last week at The Piece Hall,” Calvi wrote in an Instagram post. “It was really inspiring to perform Strange Weather with him once again. The shared live appearances coincide with Byrne’s extensive live itinerary supporting his latest solo studio album, Who Is The Sky?, which arrived last September as his first major body of work since his critically lauded 2018 record American Utopia.
