West Bank: A Surge in Settler Violence & calls for Accountability
Recent weeks have witnessed a dramatic increase in violence perpetrated by Israeli settlers against palestinians in the West Bank. The UN,along with international observers,has strongly condemned these actions and is demanding thorough investigations.
* Record Attacks: Over 1,600 attacks by Israeli settlers have been recorded since the beginning of the year,impacting over 270 Palestinian communities.
* Rising Casualties: More than 1,000 Palestinians have been injured in these attacks, primarily through physical assault, stone-throwing, and tear gas exposure.
* Doubling of Injuries: Approximately 700 Palestinians have been directly injured by settlers themselves, representing a doubling of settler-inflicted injuries compared to all of 2023.
* Demand for Accountability: The UN Secretary-General has called for self-reliant, prompt, and effective investigations, with those responsible held fully accountable for their actions.
Gaza: UN Facilities Under Fire Despite Ceasefire

* targeting of Aid Workers: The following night,a UNOPS (UN Office for Project Services) vehicle,clearly marked,was struck by gunfire in Deir Al-Balah while returning from fuel delivery and monitoring work at the Kerem Shalom crossing. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either incident.
Humanitarian Aid delivery: Reaching a Critical Mass
Despite the dangers, the UN and it’s partners are working tirelessly to provide essential aid to the people of Gaza. Significant progress is being made, but the needs remain immense.
* Food Security: Between Sunday and Tuesday, humanitarian organizations assisted 18,000 families with monthly food parcels, bringing the total number of families reached as November to over 204,000 – nearly half of Gaza’s population.
* Nutrition Support: Forty malnutrition treatment sites are now operational across the Gaza Strip, including eight newly opened locations in the north, addressing the growing concern of malnutrition, especially among children.
* Water & Sanitation: Efforts are underway to restore vital water infrastructure,including wells and pipelines,to reduce reliance on water trucking. Rehabilitation of Gaza’s severely damaged sewage system is also progressing.
* Reproductive Health: UNFPA (the UN Population Fund) has distributed 16 reproductive health kits,capable of supporting approximately 200 safe deliveries over the next three months,alongside 400,000 units of essential maternal health medicines.
Ensuring Safe Access: Mine Action & Risk Assessment
Recognizing the dangers posed by explosive remnants of war, UN mine action partners are conducting crucial site assessments to ensure the safety of humanitarian workers and civilians. Five such assessments were completed on Wednesday alone.
