Hungarian EV Association Launches Real-World Winter Range Testing – And You Can Participate!
Are you an electric vehicle enthusiast eager to put your car to the ultimate test? The Hungarian Electric mobility Association (ELMOB) is calling all adventurous EV owners to participate in “Téli merítés” (Winter Drain),a groundbreaking real-world range test modeled after successful events in Norway. This isn’t just about numbers; it’s about understanding how your EV actually performs in challenging winter conditions.
What is ”Téli merítés”?
Inspired by long-running Norwegian tests, “Téli merítés” aims to determine the true range of electric vehicles in cold weather. Unlike controlled lab environments, this test takes place on Hungary’s roads, providing valuable insights into real-world performance.
Here’s what you need to know:
* the Challenge: teams of three will drive EVs until they are fully depleted – essentially, until they stop.
* The Route: The convoy will start near Fót and head towards Nyíregyháza on the M3 motorway.
* Individual Return Points: Each vehicle will turn around at a different exit, calculated to ensure they can just make it back to the starting point.
* The Goal: To accurately measure real-world range and compare it to the official WLTP figures. Plus, you’ll discover how your EV behaves at or near 0% charge.
Why is this test important?
winter weather significantly impacts EV range due to factors like battery chemistry and the energy demands of heating systems. This test provides crucial data for EV owners and potential buyers. You’ll gain a clearer understanding of:
* actual Range: How far can your EV truly go in winter?
* WLTP vs. Reality: How do official range estimates stack up against real-world performance?
* Low-Charge Behavior: What happens when your battery is nearly empty, and how dose the car respond?
How Can You participate?
If you’re a fearless EV driver, ELMOB wants to hear from you!
* Sign Up: Registration is open via the ELMOB website: https://elmob.hu/2026/01/05/teli-merites-kalandra-hiv-az-elmob/
* Team Up: Gather a team of three to join the adventure.
Don’t miss this chance to contribute to valuable EV research and experience a thrilling winter challenge.
