WhatsApp adds four useful formatting functions to help users communicate with each other even more efficiently.
No more long, unstructured blocks of text in WhatsApp. Four new text formatting options are added to help users write text messages more efficiently. From now on you can also format your text with bullet points, numbering, as a quote or inline code. The latter is mainly interesting for developers. The new formatting options are available on WhatsApp for Android, iOS, Web and Mac.
More structure
You can now make long WhatsApp messages much clearer with the four new text formatting options: summary, numbering, quote and inline code. These are added to the already existing list of formatting features including bold, italics or strikethrough. Via the image below you can find the correct characters to apply the formatting options in your message.

- Summary signs: Has your partner forgotten the shopping list? Send this clearly using bullet points by typing “-” + space.
- Numbering: Do you want to clearly display a sequence of steps? Then start numbering by “1.” followed by typing a space.
- Quote: Do you want to block or highlight a certain text? Then use the “>” symbol, followed by a space.
- Inline code: With the “`” symbol you can emphasize certain pieces of text, or immediately put them in a handy format for developers.
