The 23-year-old singer Bodine Monet from Zandvoort will attempt to represent Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest on Friday.

She is one of the nine selected candidates from the eastern neighbors and if we can believe the polls, the Dutch woman is seriously competing for a ticket to the Swedish city of Malmö. It is estimated that Bodine will finish in second place with her easy-listening ‘Tears like rain’. “I didn’t expect to be so high in the poll, but the song is very well received and I receive a lot of support on social media.”

The cheerful North Holland native will try to win over the Germans not only with her beautiful song, but also with bare feet. It is expected that voting will also be possible from the Netherlands.

Writing camps

“It has always been a dream to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. I have been participating in writing camps lately.” Songs are created there, especially for the international event, where lyricists, composers and artists come together and search for the perfect Eurovision song. “That’s nice because you all have the same goal,” says Bodine, who has Canadian parents.

Three songs were written for her during those writing camps. “Together with a Swedish producer and an English songwriter, we completed the song in a studio in Switzerland to what it is now, so it has become quite an international product.”

Negative past

‘Tears Like Rain’ is about gaining strength from a negative past. “The song is about focusing on your own future and pursuing your own happiness. It’s actually a personal number. The producers and I had a very good feeling about it.”

The conservatory student has been rehearsing in the German capital Berlin since Tuesday. She has been staying in an apartment in the east of the metropolis since last weekend. “On Spotify I notice that Germany is a country that really suits my music. That’s where my music is listened to the most.”

Berlin

Her knowledge of the German language is good. “I live in a village where you are addressed in German for a large part of the year. I also have plans to study in Berlin for a while. Why not just submit a song for Germany?”

Did she not submit a song for the Netherlands? “I don’t know if I can say that. I think I won’t tell you that for a while.”
