A woman was visited by police after getting into a dispute with her neighbors in their apartment building. The conflict occurred because the woman kept dozens of cats and dogs in her apartment unit, causing chaos and dirt, as well as an unpleasant odor.

The woman, whose name was not revealed, is known to care for 159 cats and seven dogs. When police checked his apartment in Nice, France, they were shocked by the conditions in which he lived.

There is animal waste everywhere. Many animals are dehydrated, malnourished and infected with parasites. Even two cats and a dog died in the bathroom.

The 68 year old woman admitted that she was overwhelmed when trying to care for her pets in an 80 square meter apartment. But he couldn’t bear to give them to other people or abandoned animal care agencies because he considered them the ‘love of his life’.

As quoted from Oddity Central, the woman gave information to the police that her problems with the animals began in 2018, when she was taking care of her parents’ three cats and three dogs. Not long after, he also started rescuing stray cats, numbering 30 of them.

As time went by, these animals began to reproduce. When police entered his apartment last year, he had no fewer than 159 pet cats.

The woman told police she could not abandon the animals she had cared for for years. Because he himself will feel abandoned by them.

After being examined by a psychiatrist, the woman was diagnosed with Noah Syndrome, a psychological condition that makes a person feel the need to rescue and care for animals. Even when he is no longer able and worthy of doing it.

To prevent him from becoming a victim of his condition again, the court issued a permanent ban on keeping any more animals. The woman was also ordered to pay US$160,000 or around Rp. 2.5 billion to various charities and animal welfare organizations.
