Humphries Powers Through to World Grand Prix Quarter-Finals
World number one Luke Humphries is looking formidable as he advanced to the quarter-finals of the World Grand Prix in Leicester. He secured a cozy 3-1 victory over Krzysztof Ratajski, continuing his impressive run in this unique ‘double in, double out’ tournament.
Humphries, the 2023 champion and last year’s runner-up, demonstrated his adaptability. He made a crucial adjustment at halftime, ultimately hitting six 180s and maintaining an impressive average of 95.58.
“I went off at the break and realized something needed to change,” Humphries explained. “I wasn’t playing my usual game, so I slowed my throw down and focused on hitting the trebles.”
I’ve found that frequently enough, the smallest adjustments can yield the biggest results, and that was certainly the case for Humphries. He noted his practice sessions are strong, but translating that to the stage required a shift in approach.
Upsets and Dominant Performances Mark Wednesday’s Action
The evening wasn’t without its surprises. Fourth seed stephen Bunting suffered a defeat at the hands of Danny noppert, the 2021 semi-finalist. Meanwhile, two-time world champion Gary Anderson delivered a commanding performance, breezing past Joe Cullen.

“Joe was miles off tonight, and his start really cost him,” Anderson shared after the match. He also acknowledged his own game wasn’t promptly firing on all cylinders.
“My scoring came on towards the end,” Anderson admitted. “It’s been a while as I’ve progressed far in this tournament, and it’s getting harder and harder for me, but darts is a joy, and I still want to win.”
