For any fan of New York Yankees It must be a dream to visit Monument Park. The outdoor space is not the same as the Yankee Stadium Museum, and serves to pay tribute to the glories of the Bronx team, players and coaches who made history in the MLB.
It must be remembered that the Bombers are the currency with the largest number of inductees into the Hall of Fame, so their space of legends not only represents the club, but also the elitist bat and glove competition.
Where is Monument Park?
The original Monument Park was created in 1932, the year in which a block of red granite was erected in front of the flagpole in center field of Yankee Stadium. A plaque was placed on the block in honor of Miller Huggins, who was the team’s manager and a fundamental part of the so-called “first dynasty.” Huggins died in 1929.
In 1940 a plaque was added for the former owner of the Yankees, Jacob Ruppert, and a year later with the tragic death of Lou Gehrig they erected a second granite monument, the same thing they did after the death of Babe Ruth in 1949. By the 1960s it had become a kind of collection of tributes even for recently retired players. But it was far from public access.
It was not until 1985 that fans were able to visit it and as time went by other tributes to former players, Jackie Robinson, former owners and even a memorial for September 11 were added. When the move to the new Yankee Stadium took place in 2009, Monument Park was also relocated.

With the opening of the new Yankee Stadium, another dimension was given to Monument Park, which was redesigned. The open-air museum is a collection of retired Yankee monoliths, plaques and numbers and is located inside the stadium, in the center field area.
How much do the tickets cost?
Fans have access to Monument Park, but with certain conditions. It is open until 45 minutes before the game starts, so it is advisable to arrive very early to visit it. With your ticket for the day’s game there is no additional cost to go to the venue.
The visit to Monument Park is also included in the Yankee Stadium Tour program, which must be paid for and costs approximately between $35 and $40 per person (these tickets can only be purchased online and with a reservation).

There are also special tributes, such as the one honoring the events of 9/11, that of South African President Nelson Mandela, who was recognized for his fight against apartheid with a plaque in 2014, that of figures such as Mel Stottlemyre and Goose Gossage, and of course George Steinbrenner, the owner of the team who died in 2010.
Why is it special?
Many things make this space special, which is located in the heart of Yankee Stadium and that says a lot about the symbolism. The immortalization of team legends allows a historical connection with fans and gives an idea of the greatness of the most winning MLB franchise, through which great stars of this sport have passed.
Keeping the memory of the organization’s achievements and its protagonists alive and celebrating its legacy consolidates the bond between fans and the team and its traditions. Visiting Monument Park is a unique experience, an unforgettable experience for fans.
