Gadu-Gadu encourages former users to return to the once-iconic messenger. It turns out that we can recover our old GG number even if we have forgotten the password and lost access to the e-mail address associated with the account.
At the end of the 1990s and in the first years of the new millennium, Gadu-Gadu became a real phenomenon in Poland. Simple in its form, the instant messenger was very popular on the Vistula River. Suffice it to say that in 2010, GG boasted as many as 10.5 million users.

In the following years, however, the application’s popularity began to decline. This was caused by both the boom in “new” social media (starting with the now defunct Nasza Klasa and ending with Facebook), but also by numerous mistakes made by the owners of the website. At one point, they wanted to catch all the bulls by the tail and turn a simple messenger into a “multimedia combine”. This brought a wave of criticism to GG, and subsequent users migrated towards other services.

Although GG’s glory days are behind it and many users have long forgotten about it, the service still works. Moreover, in August last year, England.pl, which currently owns Gadu-Gadu, announced that the application was used by 1 million users.
The new owner is also trying to develop the service. Some time ago, the official GG blog announced a new feature that allows you to transfer large files – up to 4 GB. This is not the end of the changes, because in the meantime Gadu-Gadu has also become a virtual wallet (GG Wallet) and received its own advertising platform. Now the owners of GG have decided to fight for former users and play on their nostalgia related to this messenger.

How to regain access to your old GG account? Of course, the easiest way is to use the form on the Gadu-Gadu website and then provide the address used during registration. The problem arises when we have stopped using a given mailbox a long time ago (this is the case, for example, of the writer of these words). It turns out that even then, all is not lost. If we still remember our GG number, we can write to [email protected] and ask for help in recovering the account.

Unfortunately, there is also worse news. As it turns out, even after regaining access to the old account, our contact list and message archive will probably be empty. Reason? GDPR.
