Zug – Bern 6:2

Serie 3:2

EV Zug is one win away from reaching the semi-finals. Coach Dan Tangnes’ team is leading 3-2 in the quarter-final series against Bern after a 6-2 home win.

Zug led 4-0 after two thirds, although the shot ratio at that point was 23:22 in favor of the guests. The Bernese had some good chances, but Zug goalie Leonardo Genoni was once again in top form in an important game. In the 12th minute he made a miraculous save against Thierry Bader.

It would have been 1-1 after Dominik Schlumpf gave Zug the lead in the 6th minute. No one from Bern paid attention to the defender as he stormed forward and was served by Lino Martschini. As a result, Schlumpf defeated Bern goalie Philipp Wüthrich in the style of a top striker. It was only his third goal in the current championship and his second in the playoffs. The season before he went scoreless.

In the first four games in this series, the team that scored 1-0 won. And that was the case this time too. In the 18th minute, Fabrice Herzog increased the score to 2-0, after which Wüthrich was replaced by Adam Reideborn, although he was not to blame for the goals conceded and he had impressed in the 3-2 home win on Saturday.

In the 25th minute, Lino Martschini and Marc Michaelis scored within 31 seconds to make it 4-0 and thus ensure the preliminary decision. The sixth game takes place on Wednesday in Bern.

Lausanne – Davos 0:1

Serie 2:3

HC Davos wins away from home for the second time in the quarter-final series against Lausanne and leads 3-2 after Monday’s 1-0 win.

Not all of the 8,917 spectators saw this most important goal of the evening live. Even the well-positioned referee did not initially decide on a goal. Only Valentin Nussbaumer, the goalscorer, saw it clearly: his final attempt rolled behind the goal line; The liberation act by Fabian Heldner from Lausanne came a fraction of a second too late. When Lausanne’s goalie Connor Hughes finally got the puck under control half a minute later, Nussbaumer immediately insisted on a video consultation. Nussbaumer was right: a perfect goal!

The second Davos away win in this series also came about happily. The people of Davos were playing with fire. They sought salvation in defensiveness and passivity. In the first third, HCD only shot on goal once (14:1 shots for Lausanne). And Valentin Nussbaumer’s goal to take the lead only resulted from the second shot on goal in the final period (14:3 shots on goal for Lausanne). Only in the second third, also because of two power play chances, did HC Davos generate a little more offense (11:8 shots on goal for Lausanne).

The Vaudois have to accept the accusation that many of their 39 final attempts lacked precision and determination. Sandro Aeschlimann, the HC Davos goalie, had his seventh shutout this season, the first in the playoffs. He made his best save a few seconds before Nussbaumer’s goal when he parried against Christian Djoos. And in the final minute, Lawrence Pilut hit the crossbar.

As an outsider, Davos led the series after the first game, but gave up the advantage two days later with a home defeat (2:3). On Wednesday, the Davos team can book their ticket for a semi-final series against the ZSC Lions, against whom they have never lost this season (4-0 wins), with a home win.
