As the LIV Golf tour arrives at Donald Trump’s course in Bedminster, New Jersey, for an event running from Thursday, Aug. 4 to Sunday, Aug. 7, player anxiety reached a head during a private gathering on Tuesday. LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil and other executives addressed team captains before departing, leaving two-time U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau to run a 30-minute players-only session behind closed doors, according to reporter David Rumsey.
Cleeks GC player Richard Bland told reporters that DeChambeau ran through what he knows as competitors attempt to navigate mounting questions about the league’s survival. Korean Golf Club captain Ben An lightened the mood slightly when speaking in the car park, telling reporters that the meeting went well and nobody threw fists.
“Bryson just ran through what he knows, and obviously, we’re trying to do it as a group, but we’re individuals as well, so I think the next two to three weeks is going to be where it’s at. We’re in this together; we’re fully backing Scott. I think probably in the next two to three weeks we’ll have a bigger picture. We’re just in that kind of stage at the minute that we’re positive with what’s going on, but we just need everything to be fully signed off so you can go forward.”

Uncertainty Surrounds the Michigan Team Championship and 2027 Funding
Major doubts persist over whether LIV Golf’s season-ending Team Championship will actually take place at the end of the month in Michigan. Cleeks GC captain Martin Kaymer recently gave the event at The Cardinal in Plymouth, Michigan, a five percent chance of proceeding, while Kevin Kisner noted that organizers had not even begun building the required infrastructure.
Before the meeting, Cameron Smith addressed the media regarding the scheduled Aug. 27–30 tournament.
Financial pressures compound the operational hurdles. The Saudi Public Investment Fund, which has financed the league since its launch in 2022 with an estimated $5 billion investment through prize funds and marquee signings, confirmed earlier this season that it will not continue funding LIV Golf past the current campaign. Although the New York Post reported that O’Neil was on the verge of securing a $250 million investment, players remain in the dark about long-term financial backing for 2027.

Amid the boardroom turmoil, a $30 million purse is up for grabs this weekend in New Jersey, featuring prize money for individuals and teams.
