AlphaTheta RMX-IGNITE: Next-Generation Effects Unit for DJs
AlphaTheta, formerly known as Pioneer DJ, has released the RMX-IGNITE, a new effects unit designed to enhance DJ performances with a blend of creative tools and intuitive control. Building upon the legacy of the RMX-1000,the RMX-IGNITE offers updated audio processing,a sampler section, and a unique Release Echo function.
FX Sections
The RMX-IGNITE features two distinct FX sections: a 3-Band FX section and an Isolate FX section. The 3-Band FX section provides control over high, mid, and low frequencies, allowing DJs to sculpt the sound of their tracks. the Isolate FX section offers a range of effects, including Tape Echo, Reverb, Drive, Filter, Ducker, and Rhythm. Notably, some modes within the Isolate FX can function as an isolator when the knobs are turned to the left, providing further sonic manipulation possibilities.
alphatheta has incorporated sub-parameter knobs for precise tonal adjustments within the FX sections. These physical controls are designed to be visually engaging during performance, complementing the audio changes.
Sampler Section
A key feature of the RMX-IGNITE is its integrated sampler section, equipped with four durable trigger pads and illuminated by white LEDs. The sampler supports overdub mode, enabling DJs to record and loop samples in one-bar phrases.
The unit comes pre-loaded with 20 samples sourced from Loopcloud, a royalty-free sound platform popular among dance music producers. DJs can also import their own samples using the dedicated RMX-IGNITE Sample Manager software. Samples can be transferred via USB drive or through a PRO DJ LINK network connection to compatible DJ players.
The sampler includes a Sample Roll function with 10 rhythmic patterns, as well as a new Groove Roll feature activated by pressing multiple sample roll buttons together.
Dedicated Sampler Color FX – Echo, Space, filter, Pitch, Decay, and Swing – allow for autonomous processing of samples, separate from the main track audio.
Release Echo Function
The RMX-IGNITE introduces a Release Echo function, activated by a single large button. This function resets effects and samples, returning the track to its original state with an echo tail. Two modes are available: Dry mode maintains the musical flow, while Mute mode cuts the sound for a dramatic break before resuming playback.
Connectivity and Control
The unit features a multicolour display that provides visual feedback on 3-Band FX sub-parameters, loaded samples, selected Sampler Colour FX, BPM, and input/output levels. The screen also facilitates sample browsing and selection.
AlphaTheta has included PRO DJ LINK support, enabling synchronization of BPM and grid facts with cdjs and other compatible DJ players for improved beat alignment during roll and overdub functions. Digital send and return connections are also available via a USB cable to compatible DJM-A9 and DJM-V10 mixers, allowing for digital signal transmission.
Audio Processing Specifications
The RMX-IGNITE boasts a redesigned audio architecture compared to its predecessor, the RMX-1000. It utilizes 96 kHz sampling rate and 64-bit mixing DSP processing, coupled with 32-bit A/D and D/A converters from ESS Technology.
Published specifications detail a frequency response of 20 Hz to 40 kHz and a total harmonic distortion of 0.0018% across the 20 Hz to 20 kHz bandwidth.
Connectivity options include 1/4-inch TS jack input and output, a USB Type-A port, two USB Type-C ports, and a LAN port. The unit measures 340.0 × 213.3 × 72.8 mm and weighs 2.3 kg.
“Meet the RMX-IGNITE, the next-generation effector from AlphaTheta designed to spark your creativity,” said AlphaTheta in a press release.
