Two people were detained in Ukraine, who are suspected of identifying military positions while traveling in the northeastern part of the country disguised as mechanics and transmitting this information to Russia, the local security service (SZBU) announced on Friday.

According to the information, the Russian forces tasked these people with identifying the positions of the defense lines of the Ukrainian army near the country’s second largest city, Kharkiv, which has been under heavy attack by Moscow in recent weeks.

The SZBU believes that the Russian forces want to deploy highly effective guided aerial bombs against fortified positions in the region.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, the two suspects traveled alone in the region posing as mechanics while secretly recording the location of Ukrainian troops and defense lines.

The obtained information was then presumably passed on to a friend of theirs living in the zone occupied by Russian forces, who, according to the same source, joined the Russian special forces in the region.

The two men were taken into custody and charged with treason, which carries a life sentence.
