It is Martien Meiland who asks why Debbie stopped her TV work. “I had two friends of mine who died of cancer,” Debbie says. That created a sense of reality with the colorful appearance.
“Working in television means working seven days a week. Then you are respected by the broadcasting bosses,” says Debbie. “We were sometimes working on a program for six months. And it can very easily pass someone by. I also started to put it into perspective.”
Nowadays, as we all know, Debbie runs a bed and breakfast in Spain. “What I do now is not always completely realistic. Because people are always on holiday,” she says. “But I love to make it cozy and fun. And I’m also happy when they leave again, haha.”
In October, B&B Vol Liefde was also nominated for the Golden Televizier Ring. In retrospect, Debbie thought that was ‘an absurd situation’. “It was a big disappointment that we lost. Paul keeps saying: we didn’t win,” she shares. “We gave it to the makers. I wish those people who were there day and night… because that is a production, such a B&B Full of Love. It’s so much work. I thought it was a real shame.”
