The Polish webinar platform conducted a study on the possibility of introducing a 4-day work model. According to 54 percent respondents, if this is not possible, the solution could be more remote/hybrid work. In turn, 12 percent respondents indicate in a multiple-choice question that the shortening of the working week would result in lower income for both entrepreneurs and employees.

Poles are busy, but they have global trends under control

Poland ranks among the countries with the most work in Europe. According to Eurostat estimates, we rank second in the European Union in terms of the number of hours worked per week, with an average of 40.4 hours.

For comparison: in France, a 35-hour working model has been in force since 2002, and the Dutch work 33.2 hours. weekly. ClickMeeting decided to check how Poles view the challenges related to possible time reduction.

The respondents were also asked in a multiple-choice question about the possible effects of introducing a 4-day work model.

Respondents answered that in their opinion, the income of both employees and companies will remain at the same level (40 percent of responses), employees will earn less (15 percent), both employees and employers will earn more (14 percent), both groups will receive less (12%), have no opinion on this matter (11%), employers will earn less (10%), and only entrepreneurs will achieve higher income (8%). In turn, 7% say that a 4-day work week will only increase employees’ earnings.

Employees to business owners: don’t be afraid, but reach for new technologies!

The introduction of a shortened working week may be crucial in improving the efficiency of employees in companies. However, to make this possible, it is important to use modern technologies and automation tools.

Respondents in the ClickMeeting study indicated that if it were not possible to introduce a 4-day working week, offering remote/hybrid work would be an additional motivation (54%), 28% have no opinion on this matter, and 18 percent believes that it would not motivate them more to perform their duties.

Respondents were also asked whether Poles are willing to use modern digital tools for work. Even 68 percent think so, 16 percent have no opinion on this subject, 10 percent think that reluctantly, and 6 percent claims that we do not have the opportunity or time to deal with it.

As Martyna Grzegorczyk, Marketing Operations Manager ClickMeeting, comments, when discussing the introduction of a four-day work week, we must take into account efficiency, the amount of companies’ income and the impact of this solution on specific industries. Scientists from the University of Cambridge and Boston College in the USA conducted a study that covered 61 organizations and companies in Great Britain, employing approximately 2.9 thousand. people. The results showed that shortening the working week resulted in 71 percent employees experienced less burnout, and the number of absences due to illness decreased by 65%.

According to 68 percent respondents, using online meeting tools would improve work efficiency, and 23 percent people say it would have no impact on their productivity. In turn, 12 percent believes that this would worsen the quality of their work.

Finally, let us recall the government’s declaration that by the end of this term the Labor Code will be amended in terms of working time – two variants of new solutions are currently being analyzed: a four-day working week or a 35-hour working week.
