Great Wall Motor is preparing to launch the Ora 5 in Europe, marking a significant step in the Chinese automaker’s renewed push into international markets. The compact urban vehicle, available in electric, hybrid and petrol variants, is scheduled for release in the first half of 2026. This launch forms part of a broader strategy to introduce at least 10 new models across European markets over the next three years, with a focus on adapting to regional infrastructure challenges, particularly in areas with limited EV charging availability.

The Ora 5 will be followed by the Jolion Max SUV and H7 later in 2026, with Haval SUVs leading the company’s European offensive. Great Wall Motor plans to establish a direct sales and service network in key markets, including Italy and Spain, where it aims to have at least 50 dealerships operational by the complete of the year. The company’s CEO, Mu Feng, emphasized a gradual, structured approach to market entry, stating that Europe is not a uniform market and requires localized adaptation based on lessons learned from existing local and international competitors, particularly Japanese and Korean brands.

Great Wall Motor brings substantial industrial backing to its European expansion, citing over 16 million global customers and more than 1.3 million vehicles sold in 2025 alone. The company operates in 170 countries and has filed over 30,000 patents through its global research and development network, which includes battery technology centers. Mu Feng confirmed that the company is evaluating multiple options for establishing a manufacturing facility in Europe, with ongoing discussions reportedly taking place in Romania regarding a potential plant with an annual capacity of up to 300,000 vehicles.

The automaker’s return to Europe follows a previous attempt in 2021, when it showcased electric vehicles at the Munich Motor Show but failed to gain traction due to intense competition. This time, Great Wall Motor’s international division president, Shi Qingke, stated the company is starting fresh with products specifically designed for European consumers. Within the next 12 months, the manufacturer plans to enter 13 European markets simultaneously, beginning with Italy and Spain in June, followed by Poland in July, even as already maintaining a presence in nine other European markets including the United Kingdom and Germany.

The Ora 5’s multi-powertrain strategy reflects Great Wall Motor’s recognition of diverse consumer needs across Europe. By offering electric, hybrid, and conventional engine options, the company aims to address market segments where charging infrastructure remains underdeveloped. This flexible approach aligns with the company’s broader goal of preserving flexibility in its product planning while building long-term brand credibility through progressive market integration rather than rapid, high-risk expansion.

As Great Wall Motor advances its European rollout, industry observers will monitor how effectively it navigates regulatory environments, establishes after-sales support, and differentiates its offerings in a crowded marketplace.
