An American tourist admitted to raping and killing a young woman near the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany, whose girlfriend he also tried to kill, reports the BBC.

The 21- and 22-year-old women, also American, met the 31-year-old man at the bridge near the castle, who offered to show them a nice, hidden route. When they reached a more hidden area, he pushed the younger woman to the ground, raped and strangled her. His girlfriend tried to stop him, but he pushed her into the 50-meter deep abyss.

He then continued the violence while strangling the woman with a belt and videotaping it. When his victim passed out, he also pushed him into the ravine because he heard other hikers approaching. The 22-year-old woman survived the fall with several injuries, while the younger tourist died of his injuries in the hospital.

The man fled, but was caught the same day. A bystander said the man’s face and neck were covered in long, red claws, and it appeared the woman had been struggling for a while.

The man admitted to the charges, and according to his defenders, he is ashamed of his act, which he did not plan in advance, but committed spontaneously. According to the lawyers, he wants to apologize to the woman’s family. The authorities also found child pornography on the suspect’s devices, which he also admitted to being his. They can even be sentenced to life in prison.
