RODERWOLDE – As part of the programme Inhale-Exhale, a program with Drenthe artists, in collaboration with the Art & Culture Foundation and kuunst.nu, a knowledge evening about the language of birds will be organized on April 22. The evening is intended to get to know each other and exchange knowledge about the De Onlanden nature reserve.

The knowledge evening takes place in the context of In this program, five Drenthe artists delve into De Onlanden, a young swamp area in the head of Drenthe, near the city of Groningen. After a period of land reclamation, humans have ‘returned’ this area to nature. In a short time, De Onlanden has become a true paradise for countless bird species.

Guest speakers are Priscila Fernandes, Martin Brandsma and Ben Koks. Through her visits to De Onlanden, artist Priscila Fernandes (lives and works in Kolderveen) became interested in the question of what would happen if we gave our voice to the birds out of love and could therefore understand them. Martin Brandsma (lives and works in the Drents-Friese Wold), is an artist and behavioral biologist. Over the past twelve years of his life, he has devoted a large part of his time to the gray shrike. Ornithologist and nature conservationist Ben Koks, author of the booklet ‘Birds show us the way’, has been looking at harriers for decades. Quite a few Montagu’s harriers sleep in De Onlanden. Their sleeping arrangements are much more than the simple sum of safety and space utilization. To understand the phenomenon behind sleeping places, Koks traveled to West Africa, India and many European countries.
