NAYPYIDAW – The civil war in Myanmar is creating deep chaos and uncertainty, especially among the country’s military leaders.
Several generals have been reported missing or executed. This fact adds to the long list of victims of the prolonged conflict in that country.
Missing or Executed Generals
1. Deputy Head of the Junta Soe Win
One of the most prominent names on this list is Deputy Junta Chief Soe Win. He had not been seen in public for more than two weeks, sparking widespread rumors that he was seriously injured in a drone strike on April 9, 2024.
Soe Win was at the Southeastern Command in Mawlamyine, Mon State overseeing military operations in Myawaddy Town, Karen state, when rebel forces attacked the base with drones.
Soe Win’s absence from Myanmar’s traditional New Year celebrations in the administrative capital Naypyitaw has increased speculation about his mysterious condition.
These senior deputy generals had previously never missed attending annual celebrations at the pavilion set up by their families with ties to the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and Mayor of Naypytaw.
